Cat update
Aug. 20th, 2008 08:51 amPanzi came home looking like a cat-lamp and was still pretty drugged up and wobbly. The vet said I was supposed to leave the lampshade on her head for 2 weeks!!! I don't think that's humanly possible for me to do. She couldn't do anything, and after getting butted in the face with it a couple of times as she was trying to settle down near me to sleep, I took it off. Panzi is much more comfortable and she doesn't seem to be bothering the stitches more than "normal grooming" would indicate. If that changes, I suppose I can put the thing back on her, but those collars have not been successful with cats AFAIK. (And when Nika was spayed about 10 years ago, there were no lampshades on her, and she had the more invasive, non-laser surgery. Laser surgery is supposed to have faster healing times and smaller incisions)
She spent most of last night passed out. I had to take her to the litter box every 4-6 hours, because I wasn't sure she could navigate the stairs properly. She has also been looking for Nika (who is still at the vet's, awaiting tail tip amputation surgery). I am not sure how the homecoming is going to go tonight. I don't think I'll be here - I'll be at the PTSO meeting where we set up everything.
Last meeting we all volunteered for our jobs and that was pretty much it. This meeting is where we DEFINE what our jobs are (I love volunteering for a job whose role is vague and undefined! </sarcasm>), and figure out how we make decisions (I'm going to push for simple majority, since that seems the most efficient). I will have to tell my ex-covenmates that my experiences there have really helped in this situation. I have set up quite the efficient file structure online (in a Yahoo group) for our record-keeping, and my innate anal-retentiveness is a good trait for being the Secretary of this organization. At least in the first year of its existence. I will be more than happy to turn this job over to someone else next year. The other role I have taken on (Student Performance Coordinator) I may want to keep in the future. I suppose it depends on how power-mad I become. Bwahahahaha!
Today is also R's birthday. I'm not sure what he wants to do today, besides go out for an early dinner (so I can make my meeting tonight). It was probably not the wisest decision to have both cats operated on right now if we were planning a big day out. At least I have the day off from work and I got to sleep in.

Date: 2008-08-20 03:05 pm (UTC)your entry reminds me of when I had my german shepherd / border collie desexed. She was wonderful even staggering out the door to be sick first up. She licked ... well as you say.... the normal grooming / healing amount but what impressed me most was the GETTING OUTSIDE to pee etc. I wasnt so impressed with the huntsman spider (fairly horrid large thing) that took hold of my finger but better he try and bite me than Jess the dog. The experts say he couldnt bite me.... backward facing fangs or something.... just needed my finger to catch up on that info.
You know... I mentioned once to my ex how she never missed a toilet exit when she was a pup. Apparently I have selective memory... she went anywhere and he trained her. Well there you go. Did he give birth to my babes too?
sending good thoughts your way for fast healing kitty kats (sad about the tail problem)

Date: 2008-08-20 04:54 pm (UTC)If you have to put an Elizabethan collar back on Panzi, try to find one of the soft fabric ones instead of the lampshade ones. The stiff plastic ones are really only needed for determined wound worriers, usually the soft ones serve the purpose well enough and are much more comfortable.

Date: 2008-08-20 05:27 pm (UTC)Panzi really hasn't been at her stitches at all, really. And there are only 2 sutures, as opposed to the zipper that Nika had when she was spayed 10 years ago.
