I took off from work until the Wednesday after Labor Day (when school starts up again). I rented some movies, because all my regular TV shows are on hiatus this weekend. I will review them after I've seen them:

Animated stuff:
  • Mosaic
  • Avatar: The Last Air Bender Book 1 (Water) Vol 1 and 2 (on recommendation of a co-worker, plus A wants to see it)
  • Perspolis (I am looking forward to this one, as I've read some really interesting things about this).
Not animated stuff:
I weighted the selection heavily on stuff my kid is also interested in seeing, as the summer is winding down and it would be nice to spend some time together. Also, last week was heavy on the action-adventure side. We watched Transformers, There Will Be Blood,  and some other films that I've already forgotten, so they couldn't have been all that good.

I'm in the mood for comedies and some fantasy adventures.

I almost rented a sci-fi movie called Sunshine, but after reading the blurb on the back of the box, I sighed and put it back. It seems the "high concept" is: it's the future, and the sun is going out. So a crew gets on a starship with a REALLY BIG nuclear device... and I stopped reading. Yeah. A nuke that we puny humans can create is going to be big enough to restart the biggest fusion reactor within parsecs. If I'm already annoyed with the lack of science before I even crack the box, I don't think I'm going to enjoy the film.

If I can get everyone to agree, I'd also like to go see Hamlet 2 on my free movie passes that I won at the company picnic.

I also plan to do some quilting, finish up the PTSO Constitution in preparation for the meeting on Tuesday evening, visit Dad and get a bunch of paperwork done, and maybe tidy up the house. Oh, and I have to take the cats to the vet on Tuesday as well, for their follow up visit, post-surgery.

It seems like a lot, but if I don't decide to sleep in, it's certainly doable. I mean I have practically a week.

You were spared there then. I have seen Sunshine - it was awful.

Almost as bad as Solaris...almost.

Go watch the Russian version of Solaris that came out in the 70's. And read the book, if you haven't done. I still want the patchwork suede dress the female lead wore in that, 30 some years later :)

Ayup, the Russian version is good. Now I want to go dig up the old video archives.

You And A can look forward to Avatar: The Last Airbender. It's good.
