voxwomanIn this game that is Life the Universe and Everything, I seem to have lost a turn. I must travel to Northern Virginia for 4 days next week for reasons unknown. Why they need a technical writer on site for this particular fire drill is beyond my feeble comprehension abilities. I am really hoping and praying that they aren't going to be working me to death while I'm there, but I think I will be putting in long hours.
Which means I really MUST get my taxes done this weekend. And I was still in the paper gathering phase. Because when I come back on Friday, I have to concentrate on costumes and not be distracted by the tax man.
I will attempt to make some ruffled collars while I'm away - that's pretty much all hand-sewing anyhow, and I'm bringing a chess board and some card games and see if I can't convince some of the other co-workers to join me in a game of Chrononauts or Aquarius or Quiddler, or Fluxx (actually Fluxx is probably an appropriate game for this company - the rules are constantly changing).
I am also determined to eat at least one meal at my favorite Japanese restaurant, which is very close to the hotel, and that wonderful quilt store that I haven't visited since we sold my father's house in 2004 is also within a 15 minute drive from the hotel. That way I won't be bugging the kids about going to those places in 2 weeks, when I take my family for a quick vacation to Washington, DC. (there is some irony in this; getting sent away to the same place where I will be vacationing the week after).
The hotel has an indoor pool, and I am hoping that I can avail myself of it in the wee hours of the morning. Swimming has always been my preferred aerobic exercize - very low impact, and a fabulous stress reliever. I haven't been in a pool in ages. And I figure if I'm away from all my other equipment (like my sewing machine and my TiVo) I will fill the time with exercize, which I've been meaning to do for ages but haven't "found the time".
