Stormy Weather
Aug. 2nd, 2009 01:47 pmCats and dogs. That's from an old expression, back when roofs were thatched with hay. It rained so much that any cat or dog that was up on the roof would fall through into the house. That's how much it's raining here now.
You'd think the rainy season would have been used up with the amount of water we got in June... I was supposed to go out today but I got about 1 mile from my house and the roads were just too deep with water, so I turned around and came home.
The picnic yesterday was pleasant. It was nice to reconnect with old friends. Not a lot of people showed up, though. I think it's because there is still a lot of bad blood among various factions and people are still not willing to put these things behind them because junior high school is a permanent state of mind for some, and not just a couple of years worth of education.
Maybe I'm outgrowing the local Pagan community, or maybe I'm just looking elsewhere for community. Compared to the PTSO, or even the local theatrical scene, there is no energy being put into the local Pagan community, and it's hard as hell to rouse people out of their complacency, and get them to pitch in and DO something. My guess as to why is that these other groups have very specific goals that are agreed-to by all the participants (like "raise money for school events" or "put on a play"). Well, I've just started a new business, so I will be putting my energies into that.
Tommorrow, I go meet another group of quilters in the area (I think I'm a member of 4 quilt guilds right now - 2 at the state level and 2 local ones).
