Once the Elizabeth Mansfield site gets going and there are actual discussions on there... I'm proofreading "An Encounter With Venus" for an eBook release this year (the 4th of the first set of 6), and this is the book my mom wrote where she was venting about having to take care of dad after his stroke.
I know she would never in a million years admit it, but the timing is there - Dad had the stroke in 2000 and the book was written in 02 and published in 03. The main character has an overbearing uncle who is infirm (with undiagnosed illnesses that keep him in bed, that some of the staff think are exaggerated) and the heroine can't have any kind of life since she's at this man's beck and call.
I'm only about halfway through. And I'm remembering that I didn't really enjoy this book as much as her others, probably because I'm seeing subtext that nobody else sees.
something else I just realized: she had cancer during this time, too, but it wasn't yet diagnosed when this was written. I don't remember the chronology of her books to remember specifically which one was her last book, and I know she had 2 left on her last contract unfinished before she died. I still haven't fired up that computer to get the files off the hard drive and it's been close to 8 years already.
