My relationship to the ACLU

No, I haven't had a case tried. But my brother worked for them for many years in LA as a trial lawyer. I read a lot of antipathy for them w/ regards to certain church/state cases, but I never hear anything about the OTHER work that they do. The ACLU is more than a one-trick pony, and they have a history of standing up for the little guy when Big Government (tm) is about to roll over them with a giant steamroller.

...is a knee jerking and I think the jerk should be kneed instead, right in the cojones. The fuckweeds who revile the ACLU never give props when props are due. When the ACLU took Rush Limburger's side in his drug case, did you hear the crypto-conservative shitheads thank them or even express a smidgen of appreciation? Hell no.

So what if the ACLU always comes out on the side of separation of church and state? That's the way the founders wanted it. No amount of Dominionist/neocon/frothing fundiwhactivist ranting to the contrary makes the state in any way sponsoring a religion right. They're so disingenuous to slag an organization that's done more to protect EVERY American's rights. Of course, that may be because they're only concerned about Second Amendment rights and to hell with the rest of the Constitution. UnAmerican traitorous slime is what the ACLU haters are.

I was horrified when the ACLU represented a group of NeoNazis that wanted to parade down some street in a Jewish neighborhood in Chicago (I think in the '80's?), but that's what the First Amendment's all about.

Yeah, they've represented some slimy types besides Limburger. That's where we liberals differ from the neofascists. We're able to allow that some reprehensible bastards have the right to speak whereas the neofascists seek to quash dissent. They're so avid to quash it that they rattle their sabres, cock their guns and redouble their swagger every time someone disagrees with them. In their narrow view of life, might makes right. Scary stuff.
