voxwomanI watched 200 Motels last night (and now I must check to see if there is a restored and Dolby 5.1 surround remastered version on the market - I doubt it). And I forgot how much this film and the songs in it affected me. I distinctly remember singing a lot of these songs, and quoting various things out of that movie. The creepy thing is that the political situation here hasn't gotten any better (and some of the "predictions" seem to have come to pass).
I have had and have heard the exact dialog from the band members discussing going solo or whatever in almost every band I've been for at least 20 years now.
The music was amazing. I'm going to have to listen again - because I couldn't get all the words (or I'll have to dig out my vinyl copy.. I think lyrics are there). Zappa's lyrics are about as subtle as a hammer to the back of the head, thoguh.
But the music and motion is exactly what is going on on Broadway right this second - 200 Motels would kick ass on Broadway. And since there seems to be a movement to convert some funny movies from the 70's to B'Way musicals ("Spamalot", anyone?), this seems like a slam dunk.
I'd go see it.

Goddam, what sexy band. The only ones close were Guns and Roses. That Axl Rose and his sexy snake dance. Ow!
