Update 1: Band stuff

voxwomanI'm sure you've all been waiting with baited breath for me to take a moment from hard manual labor and write this update. Well, here it is...
First, I made it through my audition with this cover band. So I'm in. The band doesn't have a name yet, and I'm going to see if I can convince them to let us be called Porn for Patricia. Of course, everyone will then assume that I'm Patricia, but I'm OK with that. I have no problem correcting them: "I'm not Patricia, I'm Voxwoman"
The rythm section is really tight. The guitar player's adequate, and I hope the mistakes were because we were pulling songs out our butts during our initial meeting - and I had my share of screw ups, too. I mean, I forgot where to come in after a solo during some songs I haven't sung in 14 years. Frankly, I was amazed at how stuff came back to me once I heard the intro. And I was impressed that we got 2/3 of the way through Barracuda considering that the band never rehearsed it together, and it's been a decade and a half since I really listened to the song. We're all "of an age" and we mostly had the same musical tastes growing up (OK, I am a mutant, apparently, because I didn't listen to Led Zepplen when it was new, and was forced into listening to it and learning the songs for various bands I've been in/associated with over the years).
R came by to meet the band afterwards. He wasn't going to, but the rehersal studio was really nice - it's brand-spanking new, and the woman who runs it, Tara, is a really nice woman who seems to know everyone, and a friend of ours was rehersing in the next room, who I havent's seen in a couple of years, and that was fun, running into him. So he checked out the studio and I think his band is going to rehearse there, too. It's within walking distance of our new house, as well. So the guys in the band really dug talking to R. I hope they don't think I can do all the metal songs he does - I barely know them, and I'm not really a scream-y singer, and I'm not into the same bands that he's into, in any case.
This was supposed to be a house update, but I've been having a time uploading pictures to post here. First I transferred about 50 MB worth of photos to my gallery, and the batch upload utility wouldn't resize them, so I couldn't access them here (the photos are huge from the camera). So I just set Photoshop to resizing them in batch mode, and they're FTPing up to my server as I type this. So, expect another update, with photos about the house and such.
