Entrepenoise?
Feb. 6th, 2007 08:38 pmThe thing I mostly forgot about being in a band with people you just met is that it's much harder to make them do what you want them to do. They've rejected the 20 or so band names I've proposed to them, including my dearly beloved Porn for Patricia. I'm going to have to make that a solo/private project and release stuff online under that name or something. It will be used!
Anyway, they rejected PfP, and a host of others. Let's see if I can remember some of them:
Sinister Star (an incorrect obscure reference to Peter Pan - I thought it was the first star on the left, rather than the second star on the right)
Second Dexter (or Dexter Two) (or D2) - as the "correct" obscure Peter Pan reference
Second Sigma (obviously they aren't smart enough math geeks to get this one)
Frog (a REALLY obscure Firesign Theater reference)
Samantha Who? (the guitar player is named Darrin)
Exiled from Neverland
Neverland Exiles
the Methuselahs
Self Service Cookies (this was actually a friend's band from about 20 years ago)
Crime of Fashion (this was one of my 'con bands, from about 25 years ago) -- this one almost flew
all the Peter Pan crap comes from their initial suggestion "Wendy and the Lost Boys" (shudder). I hate band names that are $Name and the so-and-so's and I don't want all the attention like that anyway. Being a female front does that all by itself. But there are all sorts of connotations with Peter Pan and being the Wendy in the story. I don't want to be everyone's mommy. Blech. I'd rather be Tiger Lilly.
Mostly, what we're doing these days is rejecting each other's song ideas for what to add to the set list. And if we do actually try to play something, someone decides after practice that the song is "gay" or "stupid". (I wonder if they are looking at that gay song list or something.) Or they reject out of hand a song because it's "too hard" (sigh).
So anyway, I think we're going to be Entrepenoise. Or Entrepenoize. Unless they see the funny list that's growing over at UserFriendly tonight. I'm actually liking "Hands Above the Covers" (or just Hands Above), My Last Cat, and the Flaming Icicles.
I also suggested The Ricks, beacause half the band (the rythm section) is named Rick, and I've said more than once, "Let's ask the Ricks what they think about $whatever" to the guitar player.
In other news, nothing has really changed on the home front, and I'm listening to Pandora a lot recently to drown out my coworkers in my cubicle farm of a job, and also to get song ideas for the cover band. I discovered a new blues singer - Zorya Young. I plan to cover her song, "Handyman". If we turn into a blues band, that wouldn't be a bad thing. At least we can all agree on those.

Well.
Date: 2007-02-07 03:42 pm (UTC)"The Ricks" is cool, too.
And it's "Entreprenoise, actually. (as in Enterprise?) Not that it matters, mind :-).
A nice idea, as well. Only: I's still single, female. If these Ricks ever find that out, they might not like it so much after all ;-P.
