What a modest request...

I must say: We have some of those (even if the cables are a lot more reliable and at least 4 times as fast). Consider another move ;-P?

And off topic: I'm slowly getting towards vacation planning. Would you still be interested in a visit? About three days in may or maybe even early june?
This is neither a threat nor a promise, as of now. I only have three weeks, and want to spend one in Farmington at the very least...

hey, when you have to secretly "borrow" access from neighbors that don't know enough to secure their wireless networks... and I won't do my online banking that way, just in case they're "listening in". So right now, I guess I'm not being too demanding on the world.

And SURE I'd love to see you (and maybe we can do something in New York City if you've never been).

Actually, NY might work somewhat better :-). Your airport there - well, to put it nicely, it doesn't really seem to be an international hub ;-P.

I need to do lots of research still, anyway. Would you be able to suggest a practical hotel, by chance? Would I need to drive...? Not crazy about that, to be honest. What we hear about driving and parking in NY is not encouraging to say the least... Could I get to your city by train at all?

*ahem*

Newark International Airport is one of the MAIN hubs for NYC. (the other being JFK, at the complete other side of the city, someplace). It's also 5 miles from my house, which is 2 blocks from the commuter train (which also stops at the airport). There is no reason to rent a car if you're doing things in "The City"

The town/city I live in is trying to become a "bedroom community" for people who work in Manhattan. It's maybe 30 minutes to NY Penn Station

We can talk privately about hotels/places to stay. NY tends to be pretty expensive for hotel rooms. There are new hotels going up in our area, and there is also the "sleeping bag in the sewing room" or our (lumpy but soft) couch.

Okay, okay - I'm really not trying to belittle your infrastructure :-).

I'll get some help with the booking anyway, this year. Met the owner of a little travel agency lately. So, I might even find a connection without changing planes *twice* to get from JFK to Newark ;-).

That's good news about public transport! I am glad I won't have to drive indeed. And of course, I wasn't thinking of staying in the center anyway. In SF, I was at one of these airport hotels - reasonable, and they had a round-trip shuttle. Nifty stuff. Your area is cool, too - but these things have time, after all. It's the flights we have to do early, here. Prices get nastier the closer you get...

For the moment, let me just say Thank You for not just telling me to forget it :-). I'll keep you posted on the date decisions, and you will of course be absolutely free to say something of the sort then, if need be :-).

well, you don't want to go from JFK to Newark!

You want to go from Zurich to Newark, silly! (Or if you aren't coming here first, from $wherever-in-the-US to newark). The airport code is EWR, if that helps.

I found a page full of direct flights when I googled...

Are you serious?! Because I just - didn't.... Got the code, though.
I only tried AA, Continental and Swiss, though. Since AA was so useful last time, and all. But as I said, I'll get this guy to do the research, finally :-).

Anyway: Seems I'll be coming from the other direction anyway. From Albuquerque, in fact. June 20th to 23?

that's weird. Maybe the flights are different if your internet connection is in a US domain as opposed to a EU domain. *shrug*

But there should be plentyfrom NM to here...

Apologies... I can't find Non-stop flights between ABQ and EWR either. :(

There are a lot of FLIGHTS.... but it looks like you have to change planes at a hub somewhere.

I'll make it - somehow :-).

From this end, all is just Dallas, Chicago or JFK. I'm sure it's a conspiracy ;-). But since you say it's well possible to take trains and stuff, that's probably not such a bad thing.

Changing planes at Dallas is getting routine stuff anyway since last year. I'm afraid know the bugger by heart ;-).

By the way: I am/was searching the american AA site. Last year, that worked splendidly. Only - they won't let us book there! I had to dictate all the numbers to our bureau here by phone, since they don't accept swiss credit cards. I was a bit taken aback, in fact :-). Might well be that they have blocked stuff for us, since. To raise fees, of course. Sure got a pretty exceptional deal (for Europe) last time...
