Random updateyness
Jul. 25th, 2007 08:19 amI keep finding new journals to waste time with browse from friend list recommendations. I'm starting to feel the presence of a Muse lurking behind me; perhaps she'll tap my shoulder soon and I'll start writing again. Well, real writing, not the crap I do for my clients or the drek that comes out in these quasi-journal things. Not sure if I'm going to write about Mara or Frank and Charlie, though. Probably the cats, since their world is pretty well built by now. And the one story has already expanded into what could be many stories.
I still haven't had the nerve to photograph myself with the short hair. People are saying, rather unanimously "Hey, you cut your hair! It looks good,' but with the conviction of a "Hi, how are you?" greeting. I don't think I'll get an honest answer from anyone - I mean, what can anyone say?
"Gee, Wendy, I didn't think you could look any frumpier, but I guess I was wrong!"
I'm not quite at the point where I want to cover up all the mirrors, but I'm getting there. I really miss Ralph, who cut my hair back in the day, when I looked like I did in my avatar picture. He knew how to make me look good. Sigh.
Just spent a bit of time searching the archives for a journal post, and then got sidetracked to tagging a bunch of things that I thought are witty or clever or good with that memories feature.
In other news, we have another offer on the house, which we've accepted. I really really Really am ready to be done with the house thing. My Gods, it's been over a YEAR since this journey started, and 8 months since we've been carrying two mortgages. I pray that this deal gets to closing. I'll know in a few weeks, I suppose.
I also just ordered all new bedroom furniture for the teenager. The Ikea crap isn't working for her anymore. It may make some good storage shelving in the basement, or I may sell it or give it away. Haven't decided yet. In any case, it's all ordered from a catalog, and 5 pieces of it are getting delivered today (I guess the warehouse is down the street or something). One heavy piece is being freighted over from Mexico, MO (Oh. Kay.), which will take a week and 2 more pieces are backordered till next week or so. The desk is held up until right before school, and I haven't ordered it yet, because I have a discount thingy that I'll get next month (which makes it basically free). I figured the kid's room really needs to be redecorated, and she's going to college in 5 years, so if I keep putting it off, it will become moot. I also think at this point, I can relocate all the Barbie dolls to the basement (and then maybe out of the house?).
This evening is the first performance of Pirates of Penzance. Ar is in the ensemble for this performance, and tomorrow night, she plays Ruth, which is a sizeable part. Friday, we drive her down the shore to spend a week or so with her friend's family at the beach. Saturday, I drive an equivalent distance north and west to upstate NY to play at the guitar player's wife's best friend's mother's 50th birthday party. I'm trying not to be depressed about this (since my 50th birthday is this year, and these guys are acting like the guest of honor is in the generation older than they). The guy organizing the party just better have the money on hand to pay me, because I didn't agree to do this for free. It's going to cost me probably 100 dollars in gasoline to get there and back.
Hopefully I'll have time to catch the Simpsons movie this weekend, and wish that it was Futurama, instead. I do realize that the Simpson's success helps Futurama. And in another week, more new Babylon 5.
Well, I'd better get some work done.

Date: 2007-07-25 03:01 pm (UTC)I really miss Ralph.
I hear ya. The inability to find someone who can do a decent cut is one of the main reasons mine is long (again), though I've been sorely tempted lately.
