We are child-free this week, having dropped off the kid with her friend's family at the beach. To celebrate, we rented a few videos that I know she's not interested in seeing. First up, For Your Consideration by Christopher Guest.

I've enjoyed all his other films (Waiting for Guffman, A Mighty Wind, Best in Show), and this one has a lot of similarities to the others, and a lot of cast overlap. It's about some B or C-list actors making a movie and how they (and the industry) react to an "Oscar buzz" that  is going around.

I think this is the best performance by Catherine O'Hara that I've ever seen, and it's worth a rent for that alone. And it makes me wish that she wasn't pigeon-holed as a comedienne for most of her career, because damn! she has more range than I ever suspected.

Oh, and go see the Simpsons, if you haven't done so. It's worth it. And stay until the very end.

I made it through last weekend, barely. The all-day gig for gas money went as well as could be expected. The partygoers seemed to like us and they didn't notice the songs we messed up, and I think they didn't care about the other songs we murdered. It was an extremely long day, however, and I Never Want To Play A Gig 200 Miles from My House for Free Again.

It was bizarre to see a woman my age in a completely different stage of life... having a party like we throw for someone who's turning 70, not 50, in our family. All her kids are grown, and some have kids of their own. But this crowd was much more... earthy... than the last group we played for (who all seemed to be terribly stuck up and uptight), so I had a much better time. And the catering was really good.

I'm about to embark on my long errand list - I have to return a laptop to a client since my contract with them expires. I'm happily down to one job for the next month, and then I'll take another part-time job in September - but I don't think I'll need to work more than 40 hours a week.

And I get to grab a copy of the new Babylon 5 DVD today! Woo!

Yay!

For 40 hour weeks!

Yep, 200 miles is plenty...

I remember how 50 used to look and feel 30 years ago - haven't times changed! And rightly so. We grew up in a totally different frame of mind, mostly because we experienced ourselves more "worthy" by ourselves, I guess...
But as always, we're probably just an avantgarde ;-).

Awwww - shut up, spellchecker!!
