Tideland - Terry Gilliam
Jul. 31st, 2007 09:24 pmI was completely unaware of this new Gilliam film until I saw it on the shelf in the video rental emporium. Really weird... and I'm glad Gilliam himself had a little speech "justifying" himself and the Film We Are About To See. It was certainly strange - not as strange as Brazil, but strange anyway. I suppose he felt the need to say something because the protagonist is a little girl of no more than 11, and likely younger. Her parents are junkies, and she helps her dad by setting up his heroin injections (he calls it "going on vacation").
I will have to mull it over for a while to make sense out of it, if in fact sense can be made out of it. If you like Gilliam's films, I'd recommend it, but it's really weird. Definitely make sure the kiddies are all in bed before you watch it, however. Lots of dead parents everywhere.
