This is a quick breather between work and the first event of the week. My ambitious husband stripped the wallpaper out of the bathroom allright, however, he also removed every towel hanging device, all the shelves and the cabinet over the radiator. So all our bathroom stuff is in this huge box in the space that acts as a hallway, forcing one to do a little jig in order to get into the bathroom without hurting yourself on a box. I just rescued all the bric-a-brac from that box (because it's glass). The bathroom is barely usable. He claims it will only be like this for "a few days". I'm envisioning having to live like this for months, because work will pick up for him or something.

Now, in addition to everything else, I have to pick out tile and paint. I don't have time for this!!!!

Wedesday Update: I'm pointedly ignoring the unplesantness in Ufieland for the most part, although there are bits of me that are annoyed that the part that controls my typing fingers won't let them say a few things. I don't think I'm ready to paint a big target on my back right now, however.

On a more domestic note, it is proof of parental love that a person would squeeze themselves into a hard uncomfortable wooden chair in a middle-school auditorium; an unairconditioned middle-school auditorium in the middle of the worst heat-wave in recent memory, and watch a bunch of middle-school children affect British and Cockney accents as they attempt to perform My Fair Lady. Especially when the object of the parental love is in the "ensemble" and doesn't even have any lines. And I'm going to go and do it again tomorrow, and drag my elderly parent and in-laws along with me to boot. I hope my ass stops hurting before I torture it again with those cruel chairs. And if you're going to give everyone microphones, spring for the good ones! Listening to 90 minutes of feedback is not good for the brain.

Thursday Update part 1: Today was a total waste of productivity. :-/ My "Better nature" was still in bed when I decided to get involved in the latest Ufieland thing, and by the time I got back from the morning's taxi service (drove hubby to the train as he had a Manhattan job to do, and took kid to camp), I barely got started on work when a co-worker called and we got into a bitchfest about the current project. Apparently we both needed to vent. 90 minutes later, I finally get off the phone, but now I'm thick in it on Ufieland. So the afternoon flys by and now I have to pick up hubby from the train, drop him at home so he can collect the kid, and I have to go collect Dad, stop here and get the rest of the family and head on over to the in-laws for the pre-play dinner and then to the play. I won't be back until bedtime. I should just disconnect this computer until my work is done. But I won't.

Thursday Update part 2 The play went off quite well, and Grandpa was able to detect his grandaughter after 3 or 4 of us pointed her out in loud voices. Then he spent the next 10 minutes waving his fan at her. The theater had fans (you know those pre-printed heavy card stock lozenge shapes stapled to toungue depressors that you have to wave in front of your face to try to stay cool). The temperature had dropped about 15 degrees or so since Wednesday (to about 85 from about 100), so it wasn't unbearable like it had been, to sit in the room. There were a lot more people there this evening however, and my daughter has (a) the theater bug, and (b) post play "letdown" - she had a crying jag afterwards for a while, becuase camp is over and she fears she won't see any of her theater friends anymore.

Friday Update I've begun to notice that Mercury is definitely retrograde. Not only do cars seem to want to kill me, I've been noticing a lot more accidents and there have been road closings all along various routes I try to take to get from A to B. Daughter has comforted herself by collecting the contact information for all her theater friends, and now her IM buddy list is like 50 people long. Work continues to both suck and blow, but I will meet my deadline or die trying. The orchestra concert was pretty good - I just wish they didn't pull the stunt of having the full orchestra open the evening with the "Star Spangled Banner" and then make us sit there holding our instruments for 30 minutes while the jazz combo played. I got a crick in my neck from twisting to see them (they were set up behind me, naturally). We played "Valdres" (the Norwegian National Anthem), "Dark Adventure" - a very bombastic piece that uses a lot of percussion, "Uptown Hoedown" which was cheezily reminiscent of Copeland's "Hoedown" (I really wish we played that instead, but I don't think the group could really handle that one - there are some very young and new players in this orchestra), "Take Five" which was written by Paul Desmond and not Dave Brubeck, I found out, 2 pieces from "Pictures at an Exhibition": "Promenade" and "The Great Gate of Kiev", and we finished up with the really easy "Cowboy Rhapsody" which combined 3 "cowboy" themes, (home on the range, something else that I can't name, and the "Lone Ranger Theme Song" which is, in fact the main theme from Rossini's "William Tell Overture") We then went home with my daughter's friend and her mother (who is also my friend - convenient, that), and her friend, and we watched the video of the concert that my husband shot, and ate ice cream cake.

You will notice that there has been no activity on the "redo the bathroom" front since the initial gutting of the room. :-/

Sigh. I haven't seen the response there yet. I'm so looking forward to it even before my morning caffeine.

the difference between middle school and now is back then my ass FIT in those chairs with room to spare. (I believe I was still under 100 pounds and 7 inches or so shorter than I am now).
